The FireWIN runs on standard 6mm diameter pellets, which are widely available across the UK. The stove can be connected to a large external pellet store holding as much as one year’s worth of pellets or, more commonly, it can be filled by hand. The stove has an internal store capable of holding 3 to 5 days worth of pellets. Pellets are normally supplied in 15kg bags which are tipped by hand into the stove’s internal hopper. Alternatively, if a large pellet store has been built for the stove, pellets can be delivered in bulk by tanker and blown into the store. Purchasing pellets in bulk is considerably cheaper than buying them in bags.
The stove ignites itself, based on a timer, in much the same way as an oil or gas boiler would. So it can run the home’s heating or hot water at set times during the day.
Due to the stove’s high efficiency (94%) very little ash is produced. The stove self cleans and places the ash in a bin that will need emptying over periods of weeks rather than days.
