Biomass - Froling S4 & FHG Log Boiler
The Rolls Royce of log boilers, it has efficiencies rivaling gas and oil boilers. Ranging from 15 to 70kW the Froling log boiler is capable of meeting the entire heating demand of small to large homes
Its intelligent combustion system means it can cope with varying types of timber (softwood through to hardwood) and still maintain high efficiencies (in the region of 90%). Timber up to 500mm long can be used. The wood needs to be seasoned for one to two years (25% moisture content is the maximum).

The Froling log boiler is very easy to light, it generally takes about 10 minutes. Usually it is lit once per day, twice if it is particularly cold. Once lit the boiler is fully automatic. Radiators, under floor heating and hot water are all controlled automatically by the log boiler's built in timer system. Even when the log boiler's fire has gone out, heat is available for radiators and hot water by way of the large buffer tank which stores the excess heat from the log boiler.
The boiler has a low maintenance level due to its lambda sensor controlled combustion which limits tarring and maximizes efficiency thus reducing ash. Generally ash is removed weekly and other cleaning is carried out monthly.
The Froling S4 has the option of an automatic ignition. This will ignite a prepared load of timber in the boiler automatically using an electronic ignition gun. This can be useful for frost protection when the house will be empty for prolonged periods in the winter, or simply as a convenient method of lighting the boiler.
