Biomass - Renewable Heat Incentive
The Government has recently announced that it will be launching a Renewable Heat Incentive in April 2011.
Anyone producing heat by renewable means, using accredited technologies and installers, will be eligible.
The proposed tariffs are as follows:
- Biomass boilers up to 45kW: 9 pence per kWh
- Biomass boilers from 45-500kW: 6.5 pence per kWh
- Solar hot water systems up to 20kW: 18 pence per kWh
These payments will be:
- Indexed linked, so they will rise with inflation
- Tax free
- Guaranteed for 15 years for biomass, 20 years for solar hot water
Examples for biomass:
For an average 3 bedroom property with a 20kW biomass boiler this would amount to about £2,500 to £3,000 per year.
For a larger property with a 40kW biomass boiler this would amount to about £4,000 to £5,000 per year.
Examples for solar hot water:
For an average 3 bedroom property with a 2 panel (4m2) flat plate collector system this would amount to about £250 to £350 per year.
