biomass heating - log, chip & pellet boilers
Wood log, chip and pellet boilers tend to be used for slightly larger applications, usually over 15kW and are connected to central heating and hot water systems.
Log boilers must be loaded by hand and therefore may not be suitable for some people. If you have a plentiful source of logs and don’t mind about stoking the boiler (probably no more than once a day when heating is required), then we would recommend a log boiler.
A log boiler will burn a full load of logs at maximum efficiency and will store the heat in a large hot water tank, known as the accumulator tank. Water can be stored at up to 90º C and is drawn off for hot water and heating as required.
Chip and pellet boilers offer much greater convenience, though they are more expensive, particularly if an automatic feed is required. They also require a hopper to store the fuel prior to burning. |
